It was all about slotting together different pieces of knowledge and discovery
Doria stumbled across Tidy when she was searching for a company to host her work-integrated learning paper at university. Tidy had hosted a project on Waikato Management School's internship platform about researching and designing an education system for Tidy's customers, partners and employees.
Having been heavily involved with tutoring across a number of courses at university, this project struck Doria's interest.
"It sounded interesting because it met the intersection of strategy, design, and education, which are all things I really enjoy."
Working remotely from Hamilton, Doria caught up with her internship supervisor each Friday to share her findings and set up next steps for the upcoming week. Her project began with a lot of research, before evolving into creating frameworks upon which Tidy's education system could be built.
"I found it surprising how much academic research I did at the start and how much freedom and responsibility I had to shape my own work. I ended up delving into some interesting theories around gamification, motivation and flow theory.
Employee and consumer motivation are some of my favourite parts of strategic management, so it was fun, getting to apply that to the business education sphere."
One word Doria would use to describe her internship is "puzzle."
"It was all about slotting together different pieces of knowledge and discovery. The final picture produced was the TidyAcademy frameworks that I designed, and the major pieces that went into this were: knowledge and experiences from university, the academic research I did in the internship, and the industry research I did in the internship."
